In 2006, UK Trade & Investment was tasked by the then Chancellor, Gordon Brown, with co-ordinating the marketing of the UK ICT sector to its best advantage internationally.

The brief was to develop a UK ICT sector Marketing Strategy - one in which industry works in partnership with the UK Government.

UK Trade & Investment was therefore asked to be the catalyst for this activity; tying business, academic and Government communities into an overarching programme that will promote the best of the UK, encouraging overseas buyers to partner with UK companies, and encouraging significant foreign companies to consider the strengths of the UK ICT sector and invest in the UK.

UK Trade & Investment began the process of developing the UK ICT Marketing Strategy by commissioning Gartner, an ICT consultancy, to write and research eight sub-sector reports and verify their findings in consultation with a small, initial group of stakeholders. These research reports (the evidence base) are hosted within this site.

We are now progressing with the next stages of strategy development and wider consultation - this website is a fundamental tool for that consultation. The contents of the strategy are available on the website for you to download, digest and comment on.

We recognise that every community has a role to play, and every community has something to benefit from in participating in the UK ICT Marketing Strategy. We very much welcome your input.
